When new fruit and vegetable markets were built further south in 1908–09, the Belmore Markets building was converted into a circus venue for Wirth Bros, known as the Hippodrome. The original single-storey structure was dismantled and the ground floor, with its distinctive arches, was elevated to the second storey. The new Hippodrome was completed by 1916.
