The Lord Mayor's copy is in the best condition of the 3 albums. The photographer was Hall & Co. The photographs were commissioned by the City Surveyor’s department.

On 18 June 1906, the City Surveyor William Gordon wrote to the Town Clerk to inform him that he had commissioned the photographic firm of Hall & Co to photograph the Blackwattle area as a record ‘of its state before resumption’. This was at the request of the Lord Mayor, Allen Arthur Taylor. Hall & Co took 22 photographs of this resumption, which were included in a presentation album, along with photographs of Wexford Street (Volume 42 / 42A / 42B).

The City Surveyor’s Department continued to engage Hall & Co to take photographs of the City’s resumptions until at least 1928. Hall & Co typically kept the negatives, which means that the council only holds the prints for these photographs. Some of the original negatives are held at the State Library of NSW. Hall & Co’s practice was to inscribe the date the photograph was taken on to the original glass plate negative, which distinguishes them from other photographic negatives and prints commissioned by the City Building Surveyor.

City Surveyor’s copy. The album contains two maps that are marked up to show where the photographs were taken from. The Blackwattle resumption images are numbered 1-20, and each image has a detailed caption. The final image in this series is an aerial taken from Grace Bros tower (it’s not numbered). The Wexford Street resumption photographs are numbered 1-17 and include a panorama aerial taken from Mark Foys (it’s not numbered). Album is in good condition, but has some foxing, and signs of mould and dust.
