Unique IDA-00034596SeriesSydney Reference Collection (SRC) - PhotographsDate19th January 1924Date qualifierexactFormatPhotograph - DigitalDescriptionLooking N, from the promenade deck, along the side of the ship SS Orvieto, which was built by Workman, Clark and Company in Belfast for the Orient Line & launched in 1909, as it prepared to depart from no 2 wharf at Circular Quay East. The lifeboats are on the deck above, the gangway is still in place at the lower right & streamers are still linking the passengers to their families on the wharf. Buildings on the right belong to the Orient Line & further along on the right is the castellated tower above the Fort Macquarie tram depot on Bennelong Point. Photo taken by Beatrice Valmai (Jenkins) Mason, with her Kodak Box Brownis camera, on a trip which left Sydney on the 19 January 1924 & arrived in London on the 28th February 1924.
