The building, at 1-3 Bulwara Road (and 63-79 Miller Street), was constructed in 1939 as Wakefield House for the offices and warehouses of lubricating oil merchants C.C. Wakefield and Company. Wakefield House then served as the Australian headquarters for Castrol from 1962-1967. In 1967, the building was taken over by Festival Records, who occupied it until the late 1990s.
