According to information provided by Ken Newton, the man outside the factory is Bela Joseph Szalkay, an Hungarian auto engineer and pioneer of vehicle air conditioning design, manufacture and installation in luxury vehicles, mainly BMW, for many leading Sydney dealerships in the 1960s to 1980s. From the very first air conditioning in cars in Australia around 1950s and 1960s, through to the 1980s, most air conditioning was designed and supplied by aftermarket specialists such as Bela.
