The mortgage by demise was made by Thomas Goodhall Gore to John Hosking for £1600 plus interest with a term of a thousand years on 27 May 1837. Gore advanced moneys from a trust fund he managed and made an assignment of that role to Augustus Gore on 11 October 1841. Hosking wished to pay out the mortgage and the Gores agreed and acknowledged receipt of the payment witnessed by William Carr. The land in Elizabeth Street was described as bounded by on the north by premises of Mr Brown, on the south by premises occupied by Mr John James , on the east by the grounds of John Mackenzie, on the west by Elizabeth Street; it was 105 feet in front, 127 feet in the rear, 92 feet on the north side and 86 feet 9 inches on the south side.
