Letter. W. H. Beare, Eastern Markets, Woolloomooloo responding to complaint regarding his capacity and explaining problems of fishermen placing partly decomposed fish in the cooling chambers. Four attachments; Petition attached absolving the Engineer of blame signed by Samuel Congdon, Charles Augustus, T. Taylor and Caul Scott. Letter signed G. Pike and E. Dalton stating that any work with the Engineer has been properly authorised. Letter from William Cruickshank, City Surveyor and Examiner certifying he tested Mr Beare on the plant and machinery at the Fish Markets and certifies he is qualified to take charge of it. Letter from Norman Selfe, Refrigerating Engineer in the Fish Markets stating he has examined Mr Beare on 1. Artificial refrigeration, 2.Management of compression ammonia machine and 3. Care of condensing engine and boiler and found that while not trained as an engineer fitter he has sufficient experience and knowledge to take charge of the new machine.
