Letter. Alexander Ogden, Ilchester, Manly Beach to the Mayor complaining about the conduct of the City Treasurer when he went to pay his rates. He was threatened to be taken to the Bailiff to recover some fees for building purposes which he was not aware were owing which he found very insulting. The Mayor can refer to the many Alderman whom he knows. Note. City Treasurer that complaint misleading and he can explain. Memo from City Treasurer that building accounts remain unpaid even after application to Mr Ogden. Two invoices attached for building fees of £22/10/- and £17/10/-. Further letter attached from Mr Ogden to his solicitors Waldron & Dawson regarding two accounts. Advice from City Solicitor to Town Clerk advising first account was released by bankruptcy and the second is out of time to sue therefore he suggests settling. Town Clerk agrees to settle on best terms. Further letter from City Solicitor that despite agreement by Mr Ogden to pay he has only paid £5 despite repeated requests and thinks the debt unrecoverable and the matter should be closed.
