This was regarded as one of the busiest and most congested corners for pedestrian traffic in Sydney, prompting complaints about loitering and loafing. The clock tower of the General Post Office is just visible above the parapet. A tram moves quickly west along King Street. A proposal to pull the Waters building down in 1902 was an opportunity to widen the footway. Rebuilding did not eventuate until 1913.
