The hotel was a double storey rendered building with a slate roof and a corrugated iron awning. It was set back from the street and overlooked Towns Wharf and today's Walsh Bay. The hotel had been there since at least the 1860s and remained there until about 1910. This waterfront area was obliterated with the construction of Hickson Road and associated stores and wharfage at Walsh Bay between 1906 and 1922. Milton Terrace on Lower Fort Street can be seen on the horizon. Windmill Street was one of the first streets in Miller's Point, running to three windmills operated by Jack Leighton from circa 1815.
