This three storey pub was part of the 'City Buildings' at 730–742 George Street, built in 1876.The inscription on the pediment shows the name of the mayor (Benjamin Palmer), the building date (1876) and its name (the City Buildings). This terrace was also known as Watkins Terrace. This photograph was taken in circa 1911 to 1912, and shows the rear of the pub (the corner of Hay and Parker streets). Note the painted advertising sign for 'Tooths Ale'. View also shows the rear of shops on Parker Street, including the rear of R F Keenan, Parcel Delivery and Bruce's suits (740 George Street); Cropley's boot & shoe store (736 George Street); and Horton & Co’s Haymarket Seed Warehouse (734 George Street). Note the gas lamp post, and the motor car and horse carts in the street.
