The banner was subsequently used as the backdrop for the Redfern speech delivered by Prime Minister Paul Keating at Redfern Park, Sydney on 10 December 1992. This speech was significant as the first admission of the negative impacts of white settlement on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by an Australian political leader.
