The City of Sydney commissioned 6,850 medallions at of total cost of £250 for distribution to pre-school children attending nursery centres in the local government area.The obverse features a crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right in a high-collared ermine cloak and wearing the collar of the Garter and the Badge of the Bath. Inscribed around the edge Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II 2nd June 1953. The reverse shows the City of Sydney's coat of arms date within the inscription Council of the City of Sydney Playgrounds Coronation Souvenir.
