One hundred medallions were struck and issued to a select number of dignitaries, alermen, former lord mayors, commissioners and town clerks, lord mayors and town clerks of each capital city in Australia and two medallions to each state museum.The medallion features the coat of arms of the City of Sydney within the inscriptionThe Municipal Council of Sydney 1842. The reverse has the dates 1842 and 1942 seperated by an anchor and the inscription This medallion was struck by the Municipal Council of Sydney to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the declaration of the town of Sydney as a cit and the incorporation of the inhabitants thereof. 20th July 1942. Stanley S Crick, Lord Mayor. Roy Hendy, Town Clerk. The medallion is engraved around the edge with the name of Alerman Arthur McElhone.
