These were included in comfort packages and sent to troops serving overseas to combat trench feet. Written insciption The Red Cross Socks Thousands of Australian women joined Red Cross during the way years. Socks and garments for soldiers were knitted at the Sydney Town Hall by these dedicated volunteers. Made to the original Red Cross WWI pattern. The Red Cross Socks were presented to The Lord Mayor Alderman Jeremy Bingham on the occasion of a reception to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Australian Red Cross Society at Sydney Town Hall, August 11 1989 by Mr PS Golding Chairman copy knitted by Mrs Lorna Lilley.
