Unique IDCC-000043Source system ID1989.105Date11th February 1941Date qualifierexactMediumSilverDescriptionHMAS Sydney [II] medal, oxidised silver, the obverse with two laurel wreaths flanking the City of Sydney's crown, anchor and star above the inscription in raised relief lettering Presented by the Citizens of Sydney to Captain JA Collins C.B.R.A.N. The Officers and Ship's Company HMAS Sydney in commemoration of their gallant fight against superior speed and weight of armament which resulted in the sinking of the Italian Cruiser Bartolomeo Colleoni in the Mediterranean Sea July Nineteen 1940 and below, the manufacturer's name Amor; on the reverse, a scene of HMAS Sydney in full steam with the flaming Italian cruiser Bartolomeo Colleoni in the Mediterranean Sea in the background. Inscribed with the name of the recipient, Lieut R B N Baker, RANR around the edge.
