Made in Sydney by William Kerr. Inscribed Presented to the Right Worshipful Mayor CJ Roberts Esq. JP., by the citizens of Sydney, 1879. A large presentation epergne had originally been commissioned by the Return Ball Committee of the Citizens of Sydney as a gesture of thanks to Mayor Roberts for hosting a fancy dress ball in the Exhibition Building, Prince Alfred Park, Sydney to farewell the departing governor of New South Wales, Sir Hercules Robinson and his wife. This is one of 3 pieces of that epergne which was remodelled subsequent to its presentation and donated to Council by the executors of the CJ Roberts Estate.
