Big cricket had a new home in Sydney. Privately financed and owned, the Albert Ground hosted the Aboriginal XI, W. G. Grace, Lillywhite's England tourists and intercolonial matches against Victoria. Plus a host of other notable sporting and recreational events. Fourteen years later the Albert Ground was gone, unable to compete against the government-supported Association Ground, later re-named the Sydney Cricket Ground. The Albert Ground was sold off to make way for housing." Back cover
