One dancer, in a leather jacket and jeans holds another, in a button-up, by the waist and spins him around. In the background can be seen other dancers with their own dance moves. Tea dances were a gay event, originating from 1950s and 1960s New York. In this period it was illegal for bars to supply alcohol to the gay community, hence gay men began to host dances outside the city where tea, rather than alcohol, was served. Tea dances spread beyond New York and became a tradition for the gay community, even after the laws were revoked.
