Having previously occupied a small but successful drapery business opposite, Daniel Brennan took over the properties at 294 to 302 King Street in December 1908, two days after the former tenant, C.G. Hatte's went into liquidation. Brennan consolidated his businesses under Brennans Ltd in 1918 and additional branches were opened in Rockdale and Strathfield after his death. The stores finally shut down in 1988. The Newtown shop site later became occupied by the Thai Pot Hong Restaurant, a bank and a gym upstairs.
