The area shown in the plan extends from Macquarie Point to Cleveland Street and Banks Street to Darlinghurst Road.

The plan was the principal record documenting the different kinds of street paving, including the extent of woodblocked streets in the city, substantiating the claim in 1912 by the City Surveyor that the council "had the largest woodblocked area in the world owned by one municipality". The plan includes all street names, contract numbers, and where appropriate is annotated if work was government funded.

This plan appeared in the City of Sydney's 2017 exhibition "Our City - 175 Years in 175 Objects" - Item 45 - Building - Roads - City of Sydney Streetpaving Plan, 1895-1911 (page 64 in exhibition catalogue).
