The City Mutual Building, a heritage listed commercial building at 66 Hunter Street Sydney, was constructed in 1936 and on its completion, was recognised as Sydney’s tallest ‘skyscraper’. The building was designed by the notable Art Deco architect, Emil Sodersteen, known for his design of the Australian War Memorial in Canberra and numerous apartment blocks in Potts Point and Elizabeth Bay. The City Mutual Building is one of the best intact examples of Art Deco style applied to a commercial office building in the Sydney CBD.
