In 1875 he became a magistrate and the acting British commissioner at Sydney for the Melbourne International Exhibition in 1879 and became the postmaster-general in 1877. He also served as a commissioner for the Amsterdam Exhibition in 1882 and chairman of the Royal Commission on Friendly Societies and a member of the Royal Commission on Intoxicating Drink in 1886. He was appointed to the Legislative Council in 1887 and in the same year was appointed commissioner of the Adelaide Jubilee and Melbourne Centennial Exhibitions and chairman of the Casual Labour Board.LanguageNo linguistic content - Not applicable (zxx)
