Unique IDOR-0008DescriptionDarlington Municipal Council was incorporated in 1864. Darlington was the smallest municipality ever established in NSW. The area is now almost entirely covered by the University of Sydney. It lay to the east of Newtown Rd (now City Rd), the other boundaries being Cleveland St and an irregular line running ENE from Forbes St to Cleveland St. From 1 January 1949 Darlington municipality was abolished and the area became part of the City of Sydney. In 1968 the boundary between the City and the new South Sydney Municipal Council divided Darlington. In 1981-1988 the City was again responsible for the whole of Darlington, and from 1989 the whole area has been part of the City of South Sydney.CreationNSW Gazette, 16 August 1864AbolitionLocal Government (Areas) Act 1948
