Unique IDAG-0103DescriptionThis Committee was responsible for drafting by-laws for the regulation of street signs in the City. Street signs meant advertising signs erected by retailers and others on or adjacent to their premises.
The Committee held eight meetings, inspected street signs erected around the City, and examined witnesses relevant to the regulation of street signs. It then instructed the City Solicitor to draft a set of by-laws. These by-laws were adopted by Council on 22 January 1907 and the Committee was discharged.
However, on 29 June 1908 the Special Committee was reconstituted for the special purpose of meeting representatives of the Shopkeepers' Association regarding the provisions of the by-laws. As a result of this meeting, some of the by-laws were amended and the Committee was again discharged.CreationResolution of Council 26 June 1906AbolitionFinal meeting, 29 June 1908
