Unique IDAG-0134DescriptionThis agency was created as part of the administrative reorganisation of the Council recommended by the Commissioners who were installed by the State Government in 1987-1988, and which took effect from 1 January 1989.
Prior to 1989, Audit had been a branch of CA 3, Administration Department, 1970-1988. There have been two previous Audit Departments, CA 83, Audit Department I, 1899-1931, and CA 89, Audit Department II, 1938-1971.
In December 1992 Council adopted a consultant's report recommending a further general reorganisation. As part of this Audit was placed under the Office of the General Manager.
The agency is responsible for internal management audits within the Council. Major financial auditing of the annual accounts is carried out by the Office of the NSW Auditor General.
