Unique IDAG-0249DescriptionThe BMCLAHG is an informal group of private individuals with an interest in the former car manufacturing and assembly business operated by the Nuffield - British Motor Corporation - Leyland, in the Zetland area of South Sydney during the period 1950-1975. Many of the members are former employees.
As part of their activities, members of the Group have sought and preserved records of the business.
In 2012 BMCLAHG published "Building Cars in Australia: Morris, Austin, BMC and Leyland 1950 to 1975". More information about the group is available in the book in addition to the BMCLAHG Series entity metadata.
Representatives of BMCLAHG (Mr Barry Anderson and Mr Roger Foy) approached the City of Sydney Archives in 2012 to discuss the possibility of donating their collections of records. The collections are considered to be of significance to the industrial history of the City of Sydney local government area.
The first transfer of records material took place in May 2013, followed by a second transfer in June 2014.

CreationThe BMC - Leyland Australia Heritage Group (BMCLAHG) had its origins in annual reunions the followed the closure of the Victoria Park plant in 1975. In October 1998 a group of 84 former employees took a final walk around the site before the buildings were demolished, and the Group was formed shortly after.
