In April/May 1986 the Legal Section of the Administration Department (AG-0003) began preparing the court lists for prosecutions on a word-processor instead of hand writing them in the enormous ledgers used between 1953 and 1986 (AS-0338).

The lists are printed on computer paper and held in black folders. The details recorded are somewhat perfunctory compared to the old registers: the curt list case number, name of defendant, vehicle license plate number (for traffic offences), date and nature of offence, plea, financial details of fine, court costs etc with total, section of law or by-law under which the prosecution was brought, payment date and amount and a remarks column. The payment details, including receipt numbers, are handwritten. The remarks column occasionally has dates stamped into it to signify the date of the warrant of commitment.

Commitment warrants were prepared in bulk against fine defaulters to forward through the courts to the police who pursued them.

Cases which did not proceed (no evidence presented, summons not served, adjourned), are ruled through, and a later date typed in, if appropriate. To facilitate use of the registers, tabs with hearing date are attached on the right hand side of the folder's contents.
