DescriptionThis series consists of reports, notices and agenda of meetings, rough minutes, copies of Council resolutions, correspondence and Town Clerk's minutes, and information submitted by organisations such as the Lucas Heights Study Group, the Million Minutes of Peace International Appeal, the Medical Association for the Prevention of War, and the Nuclear Free Zones National Steering Committee.
The Peace Day Ceremony and Act of Civic Awareness Sub-Committee was established on 13 June 1984 at a meeting convened by the Cultural Committee. The Sub-Committee assisted in the organisation of a ceremony held in Sydney Square on Peace Day, 6 August 1984, the 39th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima.
On 6 June 1985, the Sub-Committee, now called the City of Sydney Peace Committee, described its purpose as "to initiate activities within the Council municipality, including an educational and civic function and facilitate the expression of concern for the issue, the Committee working in co-operation with the Australian Nuclear Free Zone Secretariat. Discussion and action centred upon Council's participation in the 1985 and 1986 Peace Days and the International Year of Peace, 1986.
