Unique IDAS-0518Start date1st January 1844Start date qualifierexactFormatPlanDescriptionThe Riley Estate Plan is an original, hand-coloured drawing of parts of Sydney extending from Woolloomooloo Bay to present day Surry Hills. The plan is a copy produced in 1898 of the original 1844 plan.

The following reference notes are written on the plan: “The streets tinted light sienna denote the new streets laid out by the Commissioners of the Riley Estate. The streets tinted pink show those promulgated by the Government, but unavailable from being in several places built upon. The streets tinted dark sienna show those promulgated and now in use. Those coloured with neutral tint show the streets originally planned by Meehan. That part of Campbell Street through the Surry Hill Estate is laid out in accordance with the Government Proclamation being in prolongation of the present line of Campbell Street at the Hay Market but not at present used - October 3rd 1844. The blocks tinted green comprise the Riley Estate as now defined by the Commissioners."
