It was created by the Parks and Recreations Department AG-0010 (01/01/1949 to 01/01/1965).

The index is divided into two parts. The first is arranged alphabetically by name of the park, recreation centre or miscellaneous subject matter, and dates from 1953 to 1965.
The second part of arranged alphabetically by subject and dates from 1949 to 1950.

It was common practice for Council departments to maintain their own correspondence files. They were mostly copies of correspondence from AS-0034, Town Clerk's Correspondence Files, 1914 to 1978. Most of the departmental correspondence file series finished in 1978 when Council centralised its record keeping and all correspondence was placed in AS-0116, Central Activity Files, 1979-1987.

It is not clear whether the Parks and Recreations Department continued to create their own correspondence files after the register finished in 1965.
