Indexes to Resolutions of Council, 1895-1955

Unique IDAS-0756Start dateBetween 29th January 1895 and 28th November 1955Start date qualifiercircaFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionThese were the indexes to the Resolutions of Council, rather than the indexes to the whole of the Minutes of Council. It is not clear when they were compiled although the pages look as if they were typed in the late 1940s. The contents date back to 1895, although most of the entries date from 1903 and after.

The indexes were divided alphabetically by subject but at the back of both volumes there were separate sections for delegations, industrial, heads of departments, leases, leave, lettings, loans, Lord Mayor, properties, quotations, sales, signs, tenders, Town Clerk, and Town Hall Sydney.

The first volume dated from 1895 to 1948, the second from 1948 to 1955. They recorded the date of the Resolution, its subject, and a number which appears to be a Resolution number, as it is not a page number. This implies that there were corresponding volumes of Resolutions that are no longer extant. However, the date of the resolution still allows access to the relevant volume of Minutes.

It is not known what Department of Council compiled these volumes. They were originally transferred to Archives from the Library in 1986, but it seems likely that they were originally compiled by CA 40, Town Clerk's Department, 1842-1970, as the Town Clerk's Department provided a secretarial function to Council during that time.
