Unique IDAS-0848Start dateBetween 1st January 1980 and 31st December 1982Start date qualifiercircaFormatPhotograph - PrintDescriptionOn 28 November 1978 the Controller of the Administration Department reported to the Town Clerk that the sandstone on the Sydney Town Hall Clock Tower was in need of restoration. While the sandstone generally appeared to be in good condition, advanced weathering and deterioration had occurred in several locations and significant pieces of fallen stone were evident on the roof.

On 11 December 1978 Council resolved to restore the sandstone and invited tenders to erect scaffolding and restore the sandstone, and directed Council's Architects to draw up specifications.

On 10 December 1979, Council accepted a tender from Preston Erection to erect scaffolding. The scaffolding was in place by March 1980, and on the 19 January 1981, Melocco Pty Ltd, trading as Loveridge and Hudson, took possession of the site for the actual restoration work. The work was completed on the 15 May 1983.

The records in this series were the colour photographs of the restoration work. They were originally placed in two photograph albums in rough chronological order. Later, they were removed from the adhensive albums and placed in negative bags. Some were dated and annotated.
