This Project was managed by the Archives Section of the Information Services Unit. It ran from May 1986 until 8 March 1991 when it was closed down to due funding restrictions.

The aim of the Project was to reduce the amount of space taken up by the building application plans stored in the Archives Repository at Jones Street, Ultimo, and to conserve those plans judged to be of continuing value. All of the plans were microfilmed, a small percentage of them were kept permanently and conserved, the rest were destroyed after filming.

The registers record the BA (building application) number, the number of sheets in each building application, the initials of the person who treated the plans, notes about the plan, whether it was destroyed after filming or kept (a tick means the plans was destroyed, "P" means it was kept, the number after "P" refers to the section in the disposal schedule used to sentence the plans), and whether the plan was microfilmed or not (when the plan was microfilmed this column was marked "M"). The only plans that were not microfilmed were missing.

The "Notes" column was used to record when a plan was missing, the approval date, if it was a "reverse master" (these were destroyed if the positive copy existed), whether the plan needed special conservation treatment such as humidification), or anything unusual about the plan.

Staff on the Project worked on plans from 1909 to 1920, and 1973 to 1977. Plans that were conserved are stored in flat plan cabinets.
