Windows are smashed, and the sunshades strung up across the ornate cast-iron awnings are tattered and burnt. A newspaper report from the time recorded that 'In the explosion bricks were hurled 200 yards, every window in the vicinity was broken, and the fronts of some of the buildings across the street were battered severely'.
