Lampposts carry power cables to a building that houses a pumping station for the removal of any excess water. A City Council of Sydney truck is between the embankments at the upper centre. At the upper left are Administration buildings and chimneys belonging to the Austral Brick Company on the corner of King Street and Mitchell Road, St Peters. Josiah Gentle opened the Bedford Brickworks in 1893. Austral Bricks, which was founded in 1908, took over the Bedford Brickworks in 1933 and excavated clay (Wianamatta Shale) from this area for their brick production.
