Description
These volumes are labelled "Declarations" and contain oaths of allegiance to Queen Victoria and her successors, and acceptances of office by the mayors, alderman, assessors and auditors. In accepting office, the aldermen and officers had to swear to duly and faithfully fulfil the duties according to the best of their ability and judgement, and declare that they or their wives, had real or personal estate in their own right £1,000 over and above what would satisfy any debts, and that this money was not fraudulently obtained. From 5 March 1846 a printed form that was witnessed and signed was substituted for the handwritten oaths. Start Date qual: Start Date: 07/11/1842 End Date qual: End Date: 31/12/1850
