Unique IDAS-0874Start dateBetween 7th November 1842 and 31st December 1850Start date qualifiercircaFormatVolume - Leather BoundDescriptionThese volumes are labelled "Declarations" and contain oaths of allegiance to Queen Victoria and her successors, and acceptances of office by the mayors, alderman, assessors and auditors.

In accepting office, the aldermen and officers had to swear to duly and faithfully fulfil the duties according to the best of their ability and judgement, and declare that they or their wives, had real or personal estate in their own right £1,000 over and above what would satisfy any debts, and that this money was not fraudulently obtained.

From 5 March 1846 a printed form that was witnessed and signed was substituted for the handwritten oaths.
