Description
This series consists of a card index file used to access plans submitted to the Council for approval as part of Building Application (BA) and Development Application (DA) proposals for the Glebe area. In 1949, when Glebe Municipal Council was amalgamated with the City of Sydney, The City became responsible for building and development approvals for the Glebe area. Cards were drawn up as applications were received and became part of CRS 533, Planning Street Cards. Each card contains information about the BA and DA proposals submitted for one street address. The entries are in chronological order with BA information on one side of each card and DA information on the other. Each entry usually consists of the date the application was lodged with the Council, the name of the applicant (usually the architect or contractor rather than the property owner), brief details of the work proposed, and a reference number to the plans (rarely, a file number in the contemporary central subject/correspondence file series). The reference number for BA proposals can also be used to trace the relevant entry in the BA Registers (CRS 122), which give somewhat fuller information about the BA. This can be useful if the plans themselves are no longer extant. In 1968 the contents of CRS533 relating to Glebe were handed over to Leichhardt Council. Leichhardt Council transcribed some of the information from this series onto their own BA and DA cards, contained in CRS 1099. When the Glebe area was reintegrated with the City in 2003 the surviving cards were returned and have been given CRS 1103 as their records series rather than reintegrtaed into CRS 533. However, many of the cards had been lost. This series contains most of the cards for streets alphabetically from Mary Street to Woolley Street, but only a few cards for other streets.
