Unique IDA-00493976SeriesPlans of Parks, Reserves and Playgrounds [Municipal Council of Sydney / City of Sydney]Date8th September 1965Date qualifierexactFormatMicrofilmPlan - FlatDescriptionThe hall was officially opened as a waterside mechanics' institute on 21 August 1902 became known as the ‘Coal Lumpers’ Hall’ and colloquially as the ‘Louse House’, as it was primarily used by members of the Coal Lumpers’ Union as a centralised place for workers to wait for work, socialise and wash after their shift. The hall was acquired by council in 1956 and remodelled in 1958 with plans prepared by Albert Smillie, Principal Architect in the Architect's Branch. An adjoining building was also constructed as council's first purpose-built amenities centre for aged persons.
