This collection was acquired from Daphne Kingston, a Sydney based artist and illustrator, in 2014.
Daphne Kingston was born in Earlwood, Sydney in 1928 and educated in Mackay Queensland. It was not until 1964 that Daphne began art lessons, spending her 40th birthday at Julian Ashton Art School.
Kingston’s particular interest in vernacular Sydney architecture has resulted in a number of exhibitions and illustrated publications, including Early Slab Buildings of the Sydney Region and Highways and By-ways of the Sydney Region. Many of the photographs of buildings within the city boundaries were used as the basis for sketches in Daphne's book Sydney's Hidden Charms.
This extensive collection includes both black and white and colour images which document the City and surrounding suburbs. Only part of this collection has been digitised, with more content to be added over time. The collection also includes related ephemera and monographs.
