The Whaler’s Arms Hotel, earlier known as St Patricks Inn, was built on Gloucester Street in 1830 by James and Sarah Byrne. The prominent building incorporated an earlier house built for butcher George Cribb. By 1901, the former hotel was a lodging house run by Mary and Joseph Awlsbury. It was demolished in 1907. There are two buildings visible to the left: a small single-storey cottage and a two-storey brick and timber building.
