This row of 12 double-storey terraces, on the corner of Carlton Street, was swallowed up by the brewery by 1982 (although the street has now been reinstated). A group of children, one with an enamelled jug on his head, pose on the corner of Carlton and Irving streets. Children were part of the street life of Chippendale. A nearby landlord complained that it was ‘a terrible street’ and that children were always dirtying and chalking on her house. A man and woman stand in a doorway further along. There is an ornate gas lamp to the left.
