The power station, designed by R H Brodrick and his chief assistant James Merriman, ‘went through several cycles of rebirth, as boilers, turbines, generators and chimneys were replaced and output increased’. Pyrmont Powerhouse increased from its original capacity of 500 kilowatts, to 200 megawatts by 1955. This photograph was taken by Milton Kent on 19 August 1919.
