The late Inspector Edward Oram died at his residence, Buena Vista, Selwyn-Street, Paddington, at 8 o clock on Saturday evening. For some time past he has been suffering from paralysis, and but little hope was entertained of his ultimate recovery. He held the position of Inspector of Public Vehicles for a period of 27 years, which post he was compelled about five months ago to resign on account of failing health. Mr. Oram was formerly Superintendent-General of Fire Brigades in this city. As a man he was universally esteemed and respected for his courtesy, integrity, and manliness of character. He died peacefully, and his loss will be keenly felt by his large circle of friends. [ref: SMH 13 May 1889 p7]
