People and Positions
This collection includes:
- information regarding people associated with the City of Sydney or the aspects of the archival collection over time (including staff)
- descriptions of positions and roles at the City of Sydney.
For staff, positions and people are linked (where known).
Not every person in our records is discoverable through this collection. New entries and linkages will be added over time.
Most of the 19th century entries available are for City of Sydney staff. As no staff records were maintained from 1842 to 1900, staff entries from this period have been created using other records in the archival collection, plus some public and private research material. The amount of detail will vary and best efforts have been made to distinguish staff with the same names or recorded only by surname or surname and initial. Names with different spellings have been cross referenced. Where known, relationships to other employees have been provided.
In the 20th century, Staff Record Cards were used which were later replaced with human resource systems. More recent records are generally restricted for privacy reasons. Other entries for 20th century positions and people have been added using publicly available sources.
The search options on this page will only return items within people or positions.
We acknowledge the tireless efforts of City Archives volunteer, Marilyn Mason, who invested thousands of hours of meticulous and quality research to compile the records of 19th century employees.
