View of Circular Quay from the western side looking south. Artist's proof. In 1937, Sydney Ure Smith gave a charcoal drawing of the Hyde Park Barracks and 10 etchings of Old Sydney to Council. His inspiration came from the threat to the buildings and landscapes as a consequence of redevelopment particularly in The Rocks area. Many of the buildings he depicted were long since demolished by the time of his donation. Ure Smith expressed the hope that his etchings would be displayed in Sydney Town Hall for historical interest.Author/creatorSydney Ure Smith (artist)Special citationCircular Quay by Sydney Ure Smith, 1926.
