Cycling has not only been an enjoyable pastime in the Sydney local government area since the 1860s but also became a popular method of transport and a way to meet business requirements.
The City was responsible for creating by-laws for safe cycling and managing complaints. It also had its own fleet of bicycles from early in the 20th century.
