The scheme implemented zoning areas. Alexandria, Zetland and parts of Waterloo and Rosebery were zoned industrial areas; other areas were primarily residential.

This item appeared in the City of Sydney's 2017 exhibition "Our City - 175 Years in 175 Objects" - Item 85 - Building - Vision - City of Sydney Planning Scheme, 1958 (page 105 in exhibition catalogue)

The caption card from the exhibition was:
'Legislation conferred on municipal councils an autonomous town planning role for the first time in 1945. This was the post-war local planning scheme prepared by the Sydney City Council’s tiny new Town Planning Branch, following amalgamation with seven other councils in 1949. It would not be approved by the Minister for Local Government, with numerous amendments, until 1971.'
