Description
This collection contains a small selection of archives relating to the Argyle Cut.
The Argyle Cut is a cut made through deep rock joining Argyle Street and allowing passage between The Rocks and Millers Point. It was commenced by convicts in 1843. However, it was left to the City of Sydney Council to finish it in 1859. Bridges were then added over the cut in 1867/8. The cut was altered in the 1920s with the construction of the approaches to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
